Improved Glucagon Autoinjector, Reducing User Intimidation When Providing Life-saving Medication to Diabetic Patients with Severely Low Blood Sugar

LEVEL- A Glucagon Autoinjector Supporting Diabetic Patients with Severe Hypoglycemia
The rechargeable device is connected to a continuous glucose monitor, attached to the patient. When the monitor detects their blood sugar is too low, it will send a signal to the injector.

Easy Administration
The device attracts the attention of any potential helper in the case of an emergency. Once located, it takes the user through each step, using audio and light, as well as written text and tactile feedback.

Improved Mechanism
The mixing of the water for injection and the Glucagon powder happens with the removal of the lid, without any additional steps, required from the user. All they have to do is shake to mix the solution and inject the patient.

Reusable Electronic Part
The top reusable part of the device attaches to the single-use injectors on the bottom, changed after each use.

Prototyping Timeline
Different prototypes, used to test the mechanism and usability of the device throughout the development of the project.

LIGHTHOUSE- Living Big in a Small Place
LIGHTHOUSE is designed for people, living in studio apartments in big cities, who do not get enough sunlight. The device provides light therapy for both the user and a plant, which can be placed inside of the specially designed potholder. LIGHTHOUSE emits full spectrum light, mimicking natural sunlight, which can brighten up a small place significantly, making if feel larger and less claustrophobic. The light is beneficial for human consumption, as it boosts the mood, improves sleeping patterns and helps the natural circadian rhythms of the body. Specific time or light intensity can be set as desired by the user.

LUMI- An Internet of Things Smart Projector
LUMI is a portable projector, which can be used in any place, at any time- from sharing online content with friends, to professional presentations. The device also works as an alarm clock. By integrating with the user's smart devices, it is able to track their recent and most popular searches, visualising their content in the morning, in order to wake the owner up with something they would enjoy.
Rumyana Dancheva
Diligent and passionate, I strive to resolve user issues through my design, while focusing on aesthetics and product details.
Through my design, I aim to create meaningful products, which can make a positive change in the users’ lives. I find that functionality and feasibility are just as important as the final looks. I enjoy physical prototyping and modelmaking, a skill which I have developed even further during my placement year at The LEGO Group. I am always eager to learn about new ways to bring a concept to life and to try out different techniques. Throughout my time at university and industry, I have had the opportunity to live in three different countries, which has helped me grow into a forthcoming, adaptive and open-minded person. Qualities, which I find particularly useful when working in a team and connecting to people. In the future, I would love to develop more as a designer, furthering my strengths and working on projects with a view in user centred solutions.
