Fake news is one of the major issues society faces right now. I want to challenge the unethical practices used by digital and social media whilst providing a critique of the state of journalism. I have designed a product that harnesses and controls the phone to provide a more engaging way of reading news.
My final project was based around the idea of creating something new. I wanted to find progress in an area that has seemed to have lost all hope. I intend to make a statement, provoking people's preconceptions of fake news, to inspire people to adapt this design into their own lives. Most of all, I wanted to tackle a project that you won't find elsewhere. I developed a brutalist, utilitarian aesthetic to present a strong and honest product that holds truth. This device has survived the disaster of disinformation and the fragile bad journalism has been eroded away, leaving only what is necessary in the aftermath. Working in the sports apparel industry allowed me to use skills and to design products that wouldn't be possible on the course. This experience pushed me to tackle briefs differently, always seeking to look at the bigger picture rather than focussing on merely fixing a simple problem. I remain open minded in terms of my next steps, with my only intentions being to start creating in an exciting and engaging environment.
