Design for India - Panasonic Live Project

The ‘Panasonic Spice’ is the new Indian kitchen gadget that allows you to store your spices in a controlled environment. ‘Spice’ protects your spices from high temperatures, humidity and light exposure which ensures long lasting spices full of flavour. ‘Spice’ can be stored in the kitchen close to your cooker allowing easy access without having to worry about the heat and humidity.

Using the latest Peltier technology, ‘Spice’ can control the temperature of your spices. The airtight structure and materials allow the humidity and air flow to be minimised, ensuring long lasting fresh spices. The design is elegant for the sophisticated kitchen environment of an aspiring Indian.

CONNECT - Befriending Service for Expats

CONNECT - Befriending Service for Expats

‘Connect’ is a befriending service which matches expats with a local befriender. The befrienders are corporate volunteers in that they are employees of local companies who are given time off work to take part in the service. ‘Connect’ also facilitates expats to socialise together.

Expats and befrienders each have a ‘service passport’. When the passport is hanging vertically on the user's lanyard it displays the ID. This is not only an ID but a communication device. When grasped with the user's hand and inverted the screen changes, allowing access to the service interface.

RUNAIR - Smart City Running App

RUNAIR - Smart City Running App

Runair is a smart city app that shows the user the least polluted and least busy running routes through a city, using pollution sensors to collect air pollution data and smartphone GPS information to collect data on footfall. Runair maps out the ‘greenest’ running route. Runair offers an appealing alternative to existing running apps in increasingly polluted cities.

Jeremy Cane

I am an ambitious Industrial Designer always looking to stretch myself to the limit in order to succeed. That’s why I spent my placement year in Tokyo working for Makino, a world-leading Japanese multinational. That's why my hearing impairment, far from holding me back, has given me an unusual determination and distinctive design perspective.

I have worked on a range of different projects specialising in product, service and UX design. In my challenging placement year I persuaded Makino, a multinational Japanese machining company, that they needed to create a new Industrial Design department (see article). My major design project has grown out of my determination to improve the lives of others with a hearing impairment; specifically the growing number of cochlear implant users. My modular sports helmet is the first of its kind and has great commercial potential. In my career I want to make a significant impact wherever I work, in the UK or abroad. I am a fast learner and can adapt to new environments and cultures; bringing new ideas into my own practice. I am a team player with strong communication skills, always looking to push the boundaries of what is possible. Before University I travelled solo around the world for six months. During university I have been part of the University Athletics and Ultimate Frisbee clubs as well as competing regularly for the design school football team.
