Product Design and Technology

Joseph Brown

My final year design project has allowed me to utilize and apply the skills and experiences I have developed as a designer throughout my time at University. Focusing on user experience, my product aims to create a frictionless process when preparing and cooking meals within confined and busy kitchen areas. With first hand insight into the issues surrounding cooking whilst at University, design research and development has led to a product focusing on portion control, time management and encouraging students to explore new and interesting spices and flavours to their current meal plans.

My time at University has enabled me to expand my skillsets across many disciplines. The project completed during my final year aims to incorporate all of the skillsets, ranging from UX, sketching and model making to functional electronics prototypes. Identifying a problem and taking an idea through the design process is something I thoroughly enjoy, enabling me to broaden my understanding and learn from my experiences to continue to produce innovative products. My placement allowed me to develop a problem solver mindset; one of which I believe is crucial in design to influence change and spot opportunities going forward. With a hands-on approach, I thrive at the thought of new challenges where I can learn new techniques and skills to develop as a designer. After graduating, I am looking to apply what I've learnt during my time at University in a professional environment, whilst more importantly relishing new challenges and opportunities to further my understanding in all forms of design.
