Final year project
Enhancing the customisation of denim by taking advantage of the material’s most unique characteristic
Niim
Personalisation is a growing trend to counteract the fast-fashion industry. Niim is a manual tool for creatives to produce 'fade-art' illustrations on denim. A novel form of customisation, personalisation, and upcyling that takes advantage of the materials most unique characteristic; the fade marks left by the indigo dye breaking away from the cotton fibres.
Niim in use
The tool can be safely used freehand on any flat work surface. Intuitive interaction design facilitates users of any ability to quickly learn the basics and start producing fade-art.
Example Fade-Art
Cocoon
Cocoon prevents disruptive noise from travelling between areas of the home, making life in cohabited small-space accommodation more comfortable.
Alligare
Alligare makes connecting with new people faster, easier and more likely by stimulating social connection through induced physical warmth, preventing the onset of transient and situational loneliness.
George Hill
I am a hardworking industrial designer who is passionate about creating new and unique experiences, realised in market ready product solutions.
My strongest work has come from my consumer products and consumer packaging projects that start by understanding trends and finding new angles for development. Amongst a breadth of hard and soft skills, some key strengths stand out. I believe my ability to understand business drivers and how these will guide the development of a project add another dimension to my design workflow, a skill that has stemmed from my experience working at Unilever, one of the world’s largest fast-moving consumer goods companies. Another dominant strength that I have significantly developed is my ability to connect with the right people during a project, creating a multi-disciplinary team to build on others’ knowledge and work with their skill set alongside my own to achieve optimal solutions. My career goals are to continue developing these key strengths, alongside my core hard and soft skills, in a collaborative work environment. I am targeting a career trajectory that provides opportunity to adapt and diversify my skills in order to create better solutions.
