Veneutral in use

Veneutral in use

With the ability to diagnose and stabilise a potentially fatal snakebite within 3 minutes, the product is mass distributed within communitites susceptible to snake encounters. Local health workers/first-aiders are supplied with a Veneutral device and long life antivenom 'shots' for emergency use.

Veneutral - Scenario of Use

Veneutral - Scenario of Use

Designed to be effectively used in emergency situations, the device reader is used to test a sample of the bite wound, which determines the venom type in the custom smartphone app. Once identified, the appropriate two-part vial of powdered/saline antivenom is then twisted to pierce a boundary membrane and activate the solution. This cartridge is then loaded into the device, primed and then safely injected into the bloodstream.

Intended for self-employed ride-hailing drivers, Heiro drivers are fully trained, connected to the emergency services at all times and readily available to help people in need in their local community with basic first-aid and rapid transportation to the appropriate medical facility.

The service works by constantly sharing vital information between stakeholders, ensuring the situation is handled as stress-free and smartly as possible. The Heiro driver kit allows the first-aid trained driver to deliver basic medical care needed to stabilise and reassure the passenger. It then captures the passenger's vital signs (such as heart rate, respiratory rate and temperature) via smartphone sensors on the Heiro app throughout the journey to monitor the patient's condition and alert to any deterioration that may require more urgent medical help.

ReCycline - Scenario of Use

ReCycline - Scenario of Use

After securing the spool to the chuck, the user feeds the line through the 'stripper' which automatically peels off the line at high speed. Once fully removed, the line is cut using the sharp edge of the stripper guide ring. The user then loads the newly purchased supply spool of line onto the tension holder by adjusting the handle until the telescope springs secure it firmly. The new line is now ready to be fed down through the guide post and tied to the empty spool. Finally, the user holds the power button to activate the dual motors, which revolve and actuate the chuck up and down (a distance determined by an ultrasonic sensor) until the spool until full, when it is removed.

As a passionate Angler and design student, it shocked me to learn that despite being 100% recyclable, almost 384,000km of monofilament (Nylon) fishing line is sent to landfill each year, in the UK alone. This environmental hazard causes hundreds of thousands of wildlife deaths through entanglement and strangulation and it takes more than 400 years to biodegrade fully. My final year project, 'ReCycline' aims to tackle this issue at source, when the old fishing line is removed and replaced with a new one. By encouraging users to do this in a fishing store, the all-in-one product solution makes the process easier, faster, more accurate and cheaper. The 'waste' line can then be harvested and distributed to a recycling & treatment facility, where it is reshaped into new polymer consumer products, such as spool holders and tackle boxes, promoting a more circular economy.

I consider myself to be a hard-working, charismatic and enterprising individual with a passion for bringing ideas from conception through to fruition, always with a smile on my face! I have a multi-faceted skill set across several disciplines and I am always open to new ways of thinking, working and achieving a goal - both individually or as part of a team. I pride myself on having an enthusiastic yet rational approach to everything with a strong worth ethic and desire to succeed. During my time here at Loughborough, I have thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of student life but I am now looking forward to getting stuck into the 'real' world and making a difference!
