Exercise and therapy device to improve the movement of arthritic hands
Flex - Hand rehabilitation device to maintain movement in arthritic and post-operative hands
Maintaining the range of motion and strength in the hands is important for patients with arthritis or post operation, to allow them to perform every day tasks. This device provides feedback to the user on a range of hand exercises, enabling them to track their progress over time. It also provides light thermotherapy for when the joints are painful or inflamed.
Flex features
Clear markings and controls along with the supporting app allow the user to easily operate the device. The reversible design allows both hands to be exercised using the same apparatus. The location of the loops can be altered allowing the user to perform different exercise motions. The movement of the loops also accommodates for a range of hand sizes.
Flex App
The Flex app allows the user to track their progress over time, try out new exercises and change the temperature of the thermotherapy case to ease painful or inflamed joints.

Becky Vickery
I am a well-rounded designer that strives for perfection. My work follows a technical yet innovative approach, to design effective products that recreate the everyday.
I am passionate about design and I believe in following a user centred design process. Creating products and experiences that are appropriate to the context of the brief. I see myself as a designer with independence of ideas but also enjoy working collaboratively. My design process begins by communicating my ideas clearly through ideation sketching and prototyping, to translate these conceptual ideas into precise and technical solutions, using CAD and the Adobe Creative Suite. I built upon my strengths in sketching and graphical presentation following my placement at Graphic Packaging International. I have enjoyed the training, experience and application in various design fields during my degree at Loughborough University and work placement. I am very enthusiastic about starting my career in design and feel confident that I can apply my skills and knowledge to a wide range of design opportunities, but currently my principle interest lies with graphic design, potentially the user interface of user centred design.
