Final year project
A spinal injury immobilisation and extraction method for pool environments
Extraction Board - Full Board
Housing a gas operated ballast system for accurate buoyancy control. The extraction board can float up and under the casualty, reducing the risk of spinal cord distortion and further paralysis.
Extraction Board - Strapping Mechanism
An innovative single point strapping mechanism has been designed to decrease extraction time and provides a higher degree of immobilisation over traditional offerings.
Extraction Board - Gas Release
Malleable neoprene matting is used to increase comfort and eliminate compression sores. A bendable head support provides immediate and effective cervical spine support, lowering the risk of quadriplegia.
Surface Modelled PC Mouse
In order to learn surface modelling, an existing Razer mouse was recreated on Solidworks. The mouse was then redesigned for additive manufacturing techniques.

Automated Aeropress
A fully automated barista experience. An automated coffee machine designed around a donor component, an Aeropress. This project incorporated both mechanical and electronics skill sets.
Rolls Royce Dusk Concept
An avid petrolhead, in my own spare time I design, draw and render cars. Pictured here is my own Dusk concept for Rolls Royce.
Lifegiard Wrist Rescue Shooter
A quick response lifeguard inflatable shooter.
Patrick Crompton
I am a creative individual, who above all likes to solve peoples problems. I'm a versatile designer with strengths in sketching, physical prototyping and CAD development. I especially enjoy seeing a product grow, from paper to production with a focus on design for manufacture.
Throughout my time at Loughborough I have acquired a diverse design skill set and have taken every opportunity to further my abilities. That said, I am always looking to expand and look forward to doing so in industry. I am excited to engage in new challenging design challenges, with an emphasis on finding my own style and making a change. My major project work aims to reduce the risk of paralysis for those who have sustained spinal injuries. Current solutions are clumsy and often ineffective at immobilising casualties, down to a lack of usability and design thinking regarding a lifeguards role. Designed for use with existing spinal rescue methodology, the extraction boards design focuses on casualty survivability and ease of operation.
